Air Fryer Pizza, Steak & Fries?! Testing the Typhur Dome Smart Air Fryer

How does the moon cut its hair? It clips it. And with that, we’re off to the races—starting with a look at the Typhur Dome, a smart air fryer that claims it can handle everything from Neapolitan-style pizza to properly seared steak. It connects to your phone, has a pretty large cooking area, and comes loaded with cooking modes. But does it actually deliver? I put it to work and found out.

    First Impressions and Setup

This unit connects to an app and can be controlled over Wi-Fi, which I liked. I'm into gadgets, and if I can run something from my phone without pushing a bunch of buttons, I’m probably going to do that. The app setup was simple, and once connected, I could adjust temps and monitor the cook through the app instead of the panel.

The air fryer comes with a large dome-style lid and a big basket. The cooking area is split into two parts: a raised grate that sits over a flat surface. That design gives it some versatility—you can grill directly on the base or use the basket insert. To test that out, I went with pizza.

Neapolitan-Style Pizza in an Air Fryer?

I started with a Neapolitan-style dough, which generally likes higher temperatures than your average frozen pizza. I set the air fryer to 400°F for 15 minutes and let it preheat. It’s not super loud while running, and it has dual heating elements—one on the bottom and one on the top—so it should be able to cook from both directions and crisp up the crust and cheese at the same time.

I floured the surface, pressed out a basic round pizza, and built a simple cheese pie with sauce, creamy melt mozzarella, and a little olive oil brushed on the crust. Once it was in the fryer, I decided to keep a close eye on it since this was my first time cooking pizza in this thing. I ended up only needing about five minutes of actual cook time.

Surprisingly, it turned out really well. The bottom had a nice speckled crust—similar to the kind of “leopard” spots you want with this style—and the cheese browned nicely. Honestly, if someone handed me that slice without telling me it came from an air fryer, I wouldn’t have guessed it. It looked and tasted like a proper pizza.

Next Test: Can It Handle a Steak?

Typhur says this can also cook a good steak, so I gave it a proper test. I usually grill or pan fry all my steaks because I’ve never had much luck getting a solid crust with an air fryer. To really see what it could do, I chose one of my favorite—and more challenging—cuts: outside skirt steak.

It was marinated in chimichurri and way too long to fit whole, so I cut it into smaller pieces that would fit better in the basket. For this round, I also used the app to control the unit. While it was preheating, I talked a bit about the coating inside. It’s a nonstick surface, and it’s PFOS- and PFAS-free, which is good to know. You’ll want to avoid metal utensils and stick to wood or silicone to protect the coating.

This air fryer can sync with Typhur’s wireless thermometer (which I’ll cover in another video), but for this steak, I just relied on the fryer itself. I sprayed the bottom with some beef fat, hoping it would help form a better crust, and started with a 10-minute cook time—planning to flip the pieces halfway through.

After the first five minutes, I flipped the steak and saw there was way too much juice in the pan. All that chimichurri marinade basically steamed the meat instead of searing it. The result wasn’t great, so I drained the liquid, let the unit re-preheat, and dried the steak off better before round two.

On the second try, things went a lot smoother. Drying off the steak made a huge difference. Within a few minutes, I got a proper sizzle and started to see real browning. A few more minutes on the other side, and it was looking much better. Even though I didn’t set it up perfectly the first time, the second round came out with good crust, solid flavor, and a nice tender texture.

    Wrapping It Up with Fries

While the steak rested, I moved on to French fries. I inserted the basket grate, set the unit to 360°F for 13 minutes, and tossed in some frozen fries with a bit of spray oil. Since the fryer was already hot from earlier cooking, it didn’t need much time to come up to temperature.

By the end of the cycle, the fries were golden and crispy. They looked exactly how fries should look, and they had the right crunch. A little salt and they were good to go.

    Cleanup and Features

Cleanup was straightforward. Once the unit cooled down, a little soapy water did the trick. There’s also a built-in self-cleaning feature. The coating reacts with the heat to burn off leftover grease and buildup. That’s helpful if you use it often and don’t want to constantly scrub.

There are quite a few cooking presets available: pizza, bacon, steak, wings, fries—and more advanced options in the app like griddle, dehydrate, and roast. Some of those only show up in the app, but most people probably have a smartphone handy these days.

    Final Thoughts

For a first round of testing, I was impressed with what this air fryer could do. It handled pizza, steak, and fries without much effort, and it delivered results that looked and tasted right. I didn’t go easy on it, and I made a few mistakes along the way, but the unit still turned out solid results.

I’m planning to run a few more tests on it and see how it holds up. I’ll also be checking out how it works when integrated with the Typhur wireless thermometer, so keep an eye out for that video.
