The easy way to make perfect Basmati rice using the Instant Pot

Making Basmati rice in the Instant Pot is really simple and comes out perfectly every time with Dad's Instant Pot Basmati Rice recipe. The one thing you need to know is that all rice is not the same. Each type of rice needs its own little tweaks to get it to be cooked properly. Basmati rice is supposed to be cooked to a point where each individual grain is separate. Sticky rice is not what you are going for here.

    ? Prep

In all of his times testing out making rice the most important thing Dad figured out that the most important thing is that you need to rinse the rice. Rinsing the rice removed the excess starch from the rice. That extra rice is what causes rice to be "goopy" and sticky.

For the water use a 1-1 ratio of rice to water. So if you use 1 cup of rice use 1 cup of water and so on.

    ⏲️ Cook Times

Dad did a lot of testing with the cook times and release times. What he ended up with came up with the best texture rice in his opinion. Those times were 7 minute cook time and a 10 minute natural release.

    ? Top Tip

swirling rice in an instant pot inner pot

Swirl the rice and water in the pot so that all the grains are submerged in the water. This will make sure everything cooks properly.

    ? Serving

To keep the rice the perfect consistency it is best to serve immediately. The rice will begin sticking once you open the lid and leave it on keep warm. This is because there is a heating element directly on the bottom that will basically be cooking the rice to the bottom of the pot.

    • Strainer
    • Measuring Cup

    Ingredients

    • 1 Cup Basmati rice
    • 1 Cup Water

    Instructions

    • Measure out one cup of rice into a strainer and rinse it under cold water for 1-2 minutes. This is to remove the excess starch. Put the rinsed rice in the inner pot of the instant pot along with 1 cup of water.
    • Put the inner pot inside the instant pot. Make sure the lid to the instant pot has the silicone ring in it and put in on the instant pot. Make sure that the toggle is set to sealing. Cook for 7 minutes on high pressure. Depending on your IP it may vary on how to set it. Using the 6 qt Lux you use the manual button.
    • Let the unit set for 10 minutes to do a natural release. Once the unit has set for 10 minutes move the toddle to release and open the instant pot.
    • Fluf using the rice scooper and serve immediately.
