Dad wanted a treat to make with the kiddo for Halloween. Dad remembered he had a Oreo Truffle recipe that was pretty darn good. White Oreo Truffles look like eyeballs. Boom, Spooky! Dad went to the store and saw the price for white chocolate, which most of Oreo truffle recipe called for. Dad quickly pivoted and came up with a hack to make a cheaper version. He just couldn't pay that white chocolate price, it's not even chocolate!

Dad loves the holidays and Halloween is one of his favorites. When it came time to make some spooky Halloween treats Dad had a little bit of sticker shock.

Dad wanted to make Oreo Eyeball truffles.

The majority of the recipes for Oreo Truffles he was finding called for white chocolate to coat the Oreo truffle balls. At $6 a bag it seemed a bit pricey to Dad. Dad decided to pull an audible and headed down the cake isle. Dad found a jar of plain vanilla frosting for $1.50. The other modification Dad made was he cut the recipe in half. 20 Truffles seemed like a bit much since Dad wasn't throwing a party. Dad was just going to make a treat for the family. However, if you are having a party, or have a really big family, go ahead and double the recipe.

Enough to make 20 Oreo Truffles, but Dad made 10.

If you want to make these scary eyeball desserts you are going to need to buy 1 Package of Oreos at $2.98. You will also need a $1.50 jar of frosting , a package of cream cheese for $1.99 and an $.88 bag of M&M's. Dad's truffles cost $7.35, that is only $1.35 more than the cost of the little bag of white Chocolate he skipped. These supplies are enough to make 20 truffles, but Dad cut everything in half and made 10. So, Dad gets his Spooky Oreo Truffles and he has some Oreos left for snacks, cream cheese for a bagel and a few M&M's to get him through the day.

Is this Oreo Truffle recipe hard?

No, this is a very simple recipe as long as you have a Food Processor. If you don't have a food processor you will need to get some kind of monster to crush and mash this stuff up.

    Make Some Oreo Crumbs.

The first thing you do is place all your Oreos in the Food Processor and pulse until they are crumbs.

Make a Dough by Adding the Cream Cheese

After you have Oreo crumbs put your cream cheese in the Food Processor with the Oreo crumbs. Pulse them until a "dough" forms. Dad knew his was ready because the food processor stopped due to not being able to turn the gooey dough.

    Wax Paper is Your Friend.

Line a container or cookie sheet with wax paper. Make sure the container will fit in your freezer. This will make the Oreo truffle balls a lot easier to get off when done.

    Get Your Hands Dirty.

Now it's time to get your hands dirty. Grab a kitchen spoon and measure out enough dough to form a ball in the palm of your hand. Roll that ball until you have a nice and round "eyeball". Place your "eyeball" on the wax paper making sure to leave a good amount space in-between each one. Repeat until all the dough is gone. Dad made 1o "eyeballs" with his dough. Place your Oreo truffle balls in the freezer for 30 minutes.

    Make the Eyeballs White.

After 30 minutes is up take your Oreo truffle balls out of the freezer. Now, here is Dad's hack to ice the "eyeballs". Microwave the icing for about 15 seconds until it becomes "pourable". Stir the icing and make sure it is a "pourable" consistency. If it is too thick to pour, microwave in 5 second intervals until it is pourable. If it is too thin, add some more icing from the jar and stir. All you need to do now is pour the icing over the Oreo truffle balls and they will form a nice even coat and you have a nice white looking ball.

    Make it an "Eyeball".

Your eyeballs are not really eyeballs yet though. To really give it that eyeball effect you need to grab the M&M's. Place one M&M in the center of each ball and BOOM, instant Eyeball! If you want to sell the look further you can get red gel tube and draw some veins on the eyeballs.

    Easy, Cheap, Spooky and Delicious!

Dad hopes you enjoyed his Easy Oreo Truffle Eyeballs recipe. Now you have a spooky treat that you can make anytime and not break the bank. Don't worry about only having 10, these things are RICH. One of these "eyeballs" is plenty, eating more would be a task in Dad's opinion. These can work for any occasion too, throw some red and green on there for Christmas, a heart for valentines or just eat them because you want them.

    Equipment

    • Food Processor

    Ingredients

    • 18 Oreo Cookies
    • 4 ounces Cream Cheese
    • 8 ounces Vanilla Frosting
    • 10 M&M Candies
    • 1 Red Gel Decorating Tube

    Instructions

    • Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until they are crumbs.
    • Add the 4 ounces of cream cheese (works best if room temp) and pulse until a "dough" forms.
    • Line a container or a cookie sheet with wax paper. Make sure it will fit in your freezer.
    • Using a large kitchen spoon scoop out enough dough to form a ball. Then roll the dough into balls using your hands. Place the balls on the wax paper.
    • Place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
    • When the 30 minutes is up microwave the icing for 15 seconds. Stir the icing and make
sure it is a "pourable" consistency. If it is too thick to pour microwave in 5 second intervals until it is. If it is too thin add some more icing from the jar and stir.
    • Make sure the "eyeballs" are spaced far enough apart that they you will have room to pour icing around each one completely. Then pour the icing over each "eyeball" making sure to coat the whole truffle.
    • Add 1 M&M to the center of the ball to make it an official "eyeball".
    • Place them in the freezer again for 30 minutes.
    • You can add details like veins using the red gel tube if you like, or just eat your plain eyeballs as is. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator. If you store in the refrigerator the M&M will fade but that just adds to the spookiness.
