I pulled out my mom’s handwritten recipe for this one, so it’s packed with nostalgia and a sprinkle of “dad humor” alongside a dash of cinnamon and spice.
Why You’ll Love This Woodfire Smoked Pumpkin Pie
Using a woodfire grill to bake a pumpkin pie might sound like a wild idea, but if you’re a fan of outdoor cooking and bold flavors, this pie will quickly become a favorite. Not only does it bring out the earthy, warm spices in the pumpkin filling, but the hint of smoke adds a layer of flavor that just can’t be replicated indoors. It’s a modern twist on a classic pie, perfect for impressing family and friends, or just enjoying yourself while savoring the great outdoors.
Top Tips for Making Woodfire Smoked Pumpkin Pie
To pull off a Woodfire Smoked Pumpkin Pie, you need to treat your grill like an oven and remember a few key tips. Baking with a woodfire grill requires a bit of finesse, but the smoky payoff is worth it. Here are my top tips:
- Carefully Control the Smoke: Smoke is the real MVP here, but go easy on it. Too much smoke can overpower the delicate flavors, so I keep the pie uncovered in the woodfire for the first 20-30 minutes and then cover it with foil.
- Mind the Temperature: Maintaining a steady temperature around 375°F (190°C) is crucial. The Ninja Woodfire grill allows for solid temperature control, but you’ll want to check it every 10-15 minutes, especially if you’re new to woodfire baking.
- Bowl Size Matters: This is where I had a bit of a dad fail. Don’t try mixing your filling in too small of a bowl or you’ll end up switching halfway, just like I did. You want room to mix everything well.
- Add a Touch of Nostalgia: Whether it’s following an old family recipe or throwing on a classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” shirt, make this recipe yours. A dash of nostalgia is the secret ingredient.
Getting that Perfect Smoky Pumpkin Flavor
After the initial 30 minutes of smoking, cover the pie and allow it to cook until a butter knife inserted into the center comes out clean—usually after about an hour. That hint of smoke will blend beautifully with the cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a pie that tastes like fall by the fire.
Once it’s finished, allow the pie to cool completely before cutting in. This step is crucial for setting the filling, and besides, pumpkin pie is always better chilled (it also lets the smoky flavor mellow and develop). Serve with a generous dollop of Cool Whip (or your favorite whipped topping) and let the nostalgic flavors transport you back to chilly autumn evenings and warm family gatherings.
Why You Need to Try This Woodfire Smoked Pumpkin Pie
From the creamy filling to the crispy crust with a kiss of smoke, this Woodfire Smoked Pumpkin Pie brings classic and contemporary together in one perfect slice. It’s ideal for anyone looking to add a touch of unique flavor to a beloved seasonal dessert. Plus, it’s a fun way to experiment with a woodfire grill beyond BBQ—proving that a little smoke can make your dessert sing!
So, fire up your grill, channel those nostalgic family moments, and bring a slice of woodfire magic to your holiday table. And if you’re wearing a throwback “Great Pumpkin” shirt while you’re at it, well, you’re already on the right track!
