Dad's 10 minute pizza sauce is the easiest recipe you will ever make. This sauce is perfect for making homemade pizza or just to use as a dipping sauce for some crispy mozzarella sticks. You don't even need to cook this pizza sauce because it technically has already been cooked. All you need to pull this off is a blender and the right tomatoes.

Isn't Pizza Sauce just Marinara Sauce?
Pizza sauce is not Marinara sauce. Marinara is a simple tomato sauce that is cooked rather quickly. That makes it different from "spaghetti sauce" which is simmered for a long period of time and includes items like meatballs and sausage in it. Real pizza sauce is mainly just tomatoes and a few spices. Technically not cooked and Dad will get into this more in depth in a minute. A good pizza sauce starts and ends with the tomatoes. Just like when making his Italian Nana's "Sauce with meat" Dad only uses San Marzano Tomatoes. Dad go into much greater detail on why in his Instant Pot Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs and Sausage recipe, check it out if you want to learn a little more.
What do you mean Pizza Sauce is "technically" not cooked?
It would be safe to say that the overwhelming majority of people making Pizza sauce are using peeled plum canned tomatoes, San Marzano if they are smart. The process for peeling and canning these tomatoes involves steaming them to remove the skins, that is technically cooking the tomatoes. The reasoning for not simmering the tomatoes like you would in a marinara sauce is it would throw off the texture of the sauce. You want something a little chunky and simmering down would make it much looser.
The second reason for not simmering the sauce is you want the flavor of the tomato to be at its "brightest" and closest to the fresh tomato taste as possible. When you simmer them down it depend and changes the flavors. Now, plenty of people basically use marinara as the sauce for their pizza, and thats ok. My Italian grandfather, who worked in a pizza shop as a kid would have slapped me if I tried to cook my pizza sauce, so no extra cooking for this guy.
Ok, this made a TON of Pizza Sauce!
This recipe makes a ton mainly because they don't sell tiny cans of the good San Marzano Tomatoes Italian peeled plum tomatoes. It really matters that you use the real deal tomatoes if you want authentic flavor. Dad has a plan for this issue though.
- Make pizza with the sauce the day you make it.
- The next day make a quick spaghetti with meat sauce with it as the base.
- Free any remainder flat in ziplock bags. When you want some to use for a dipping sauce for Mozzarella sticks you made in your air fryer you just break off a chunk and heat it up. No need to defrost the whole thing. This way you have a dipping sauce on demand.
