This "Dad Hack" to clean a spice grinder is so easy it is almost criminal. If you are like Dad you have a favorite little spice grinder, and you use it for just about everything. The thing about spice grinders is they are a pain to clean. You can't run them through the dishwasher, you are not really supposed to run them under water and everything seems to get stuck in little places you can't reach.

Dad was annoyed with trying to clean his spice grinder.
Dad didn't want to have a separate Grinder For Spices and coffee (when making espresso) just because he couldn't get all the stuff out from the last thing he ground up. Then one day Dad came across a recipe that needed ground white rice. After Dad ground up the rice he noticed it came out of the grinder pretty easily. That got Dad thinking, and that can be dangerous. Dad figured why not use the rice as a "dry rinse" after grinding spices or coffee.
It was so simple, it actually worked!
Dad immediately ground up some spices, dumped them and did the "rice rinse". Low and behold it removed all the spice residue from his Spice Grinder and was super easy to clean out with a dry paper towel. After that, all it took was another wipe with damp paper towel and a final drying with yet another paper towel. With these few simple steps Dad's spice grinder was clean as a whistle. Even the smell from the spices was basically gone. Dad was proud of himself.

So don't be afraid to go out and grind up whatever you need to for a recipe, like the peanuts in Dad's Instant Pot Kare Kare, knowing you are just a "rice rinse" away from a clean grinder. If you don't have a small handheld electric grinder Dad highly recommends you pick one up, they come in very handy.
